Aprilia's new MXV motocross debut at the World
Motocross Championship round in Italy.
The big highlight of the 9th round of the championship
was the arrival of the technically unique v-twin MXV 450. There
was huge interest from the public and journalists alike, with the
enthusiastic Aprilia staff much in demand.
The bikes were easily identified on track with the
sound of the quiet (a sign of things to come generally as noise
regulations are tightened) Leo Vince exhaust on the v-twin engine
and attractive styling and colour scheme.
Ridden by Xavier Garcia Vico and Thomas Traversini
in the MX1 class, the bikes finished outside the points but showed
their potential when Garcia Vico ran in the top ten for a while
until a fuel problem and a marshaling mistake dropped him down to
22nd. Not bad for a new team with new bikes still under development.
As Ampelio Macchi, Aprilia team leader said "We've acquired
three hours of data that are really important in order to pursue
the development of our project. During this week we'll start to
analyze all the data collected and the subsequent step will be to
fix the injection and the setting of suspensions".
Also on display was the SXV 450/550 supermoto sporting
a very similar livery to the MXV (see photo bottom right).
The next outing will be at Spa, Belgium on the 27th
June.
Rumour has it that these bikes are very close to
the full production versions that should available early summer
next year. The main Autumn bike shows this year could see the unveiling
of a whole range of supermoto, motocross, enduro, dual purpose and
perhaps even tuono and rsv 450/550 road bikes.....
