Already available is the well received Aprilia
RSV Tuono Racing, which comes as a fully homologated road bike
with an included additional full racing kit (racing exhaust system,
nose cone, belly pan, etc).
These three new bikes have a different emphasis
and come as dedicated trackday bikes with no horn, lights, indicators,
etc., but with unrestricted exhausts, light weight fairings, special
racing colours schemes, and a host of other racing goodies as standard.
Then, if you so choose, you can buy an additional road legal kit
for the Aprilia RSVR 1000 and RS 125 (sorry, not the RS 250).
The Aprilia RSVR Factory 'Pista' is equipped with
102 dB Aprilia Racing Titanium exhaust system capable of giving
the already high performance Mille yet another 10 HP in the midrange
and an extra 4 HP at maximum engine speed. An 8 kg weight reduction
is the first of a series of benefits introduced on this bike to
make track riding even more rewarding. No firm pricing is available
yet, but we think the cost will be around £10,300.
The RS 250 'Pista' features lightweight Aprilia
exhausts and Kevlar carbon silencers in homage to the RSW 250 that
has dominated the World championships for so many years. Aprilia
is delighted to dedicate this bike to Europe's many fans of supersport
2-stroke racers and to the unbeatable thrills that these machines
can deliver on any track. Power is around 64bhp and weight around
132kg. Again, there's no official pricing yet, but we estimate £5,300.
The Aprilia RS 125 'Pista' is the perfect machine
for all young riders seeking to make a name for themselves in the
world of motorcycle racing. The undisputed king of the European
125 Championship comes fitted with a specially made exhaust with
external welds and a Kevlar carbon silencer. Weight is down to around
107kg and power is around 33bhp. Estimated cost £3,500.
We will bring you further details and photos when
we get them.
Also at the Bologna Motor Show will be Aprilia's
new supermoto, the SXV 4.5.

UPDATE
01/02/04. Aprilia have postponed indefinitely their whole Pista
trackday range after Suzuki announced the end of production of their
RGV250 engines. The road version of the Aprilia RS250 will also
cease production this year (yes, it's still being made for a few
lucky markets, such as Australia, for which it's still street legal).
The project could be revived in a different form at a later date.
