The Aprilia RS 50 looks and performs like a racer.
And its engine, chassis and aerodynamic design give it a real cutting
edge. The look of the RS 50 is dominated by its wrap-around fairing,
designed and tested in a wind tunnel. The front fairing with integrated
hand guards provide total rider protection, eliminate turbulence
and ensure optimum aerodynamic penetration. Thanks to its excellent
CX, the RS 50 is capable of an impressive top speed despite its
small engine size. The double 35 Watt headlight cluster contributes
to the bike's aggressive racing look, provides excellent lighting
and makes a major contribution to road safety. The plastic headlight
shield reduces weight over the front forks and gives significant
advantages in terms of riding precision. The front mudguard blends
perfectly with the fairing, and enhances the RS 50's streamlined
looks. The characteristic aerodynamic tail completes the RS 50's
racing image and also houses a spacious lockable storage compartment,
ideal for carrying wheel locks and rainproofs. The tail also comprises
the passenger seat, for use in countries where passengers can be
legally carried. The passenger seat does not spoil the pure racing
image nor does it interfere with the bike's aerodynamics.
Thanks to the RS 50's low fuel consumption, the
13 litre fuel tank gives incredible autonomy. The tank also emphasises
the bike's competition styling, sitting as it does right on top
of the twin-spar frame just like on a real GP racer. The RS 50's
bodywork does not hide the fantastic die cast aluminium frame -
a true Aprilia masterpiece. The Aprilia RS 50 is the first production
50 cc motorbike to be equipped with this type of high technology
frame that combines light weight and unbeatable structural strength.
The stylish and effective double member swing-arm
optimises the action of the hydraulic monoshock. Wheel travel is
120 mm. At the front end, the hydraulic action telescopic fork delivers
reliable, safe, sports performance, with smooth riding and effective
damping even on rough road surfaces. The 35 mm fork inners permit
wheel travel of 110 mm and absorb all the stopping power the RS
50's powerful braking system can deliver. The front brakes deliver
powerful, safe braking that sets a whole new standard in stopping
power. The stainless steel disk is an impressive 280 mm in diameter
and the calliper is a double piston unit. The rear brakes are of
the same high standard, thanks to a 220 mm diameter stainless steel
disk and powerful single piston calliper with aluminium mounting
bracket. The light alloy wheels with five swept spokes are another
eye-catching feature of the RS 50. The wheel diameter of 17", like
on bigger super sports machines, keeps weight down and improves
manoeuvrability. A chassis of this high standard deserves a top
class, high technology engine.

The Aprilia RS 50 uses a liquid cooled single
cylinder two stroke, with reed intake and balancing countershaft.
Separate mixing lubrication is provided by a variable displacement
volumetric pump. An electric starter also makes the bike easy
to use for daily travel. |
The six speed gearbox makes the most of the engine's
high power and a large, easy to read rev counter makes it easy to
change gear at just the right engine speed.
Finally, add a whole range of important details
that are normally only found on bigger bikes. These include forged
aluminium gear and brake levers, die cast aluminium footrest mounts,
an aluminium silencer, and tubeless radial tyres. Under its racing
skin the Aprilia RS 50's exhaust hides the same respect for nature
that you can find on all Aprilia motorbikes. The catalytic exhaust
complies with EURO 1 specifications without penalising performance.
