Aprilia V4R Tuono Demonstrator Now Available
Building further on their SBK championship success with the RSV4, Aprilia have shown their naked version of the winning bike at the Milan motorcycle show, named the Aprilia V4R Tuono.
Aprilia have a long tradition of taking their sports bike and just ripping off the fairing and adding high bars, with no other changes to make a lunatic, but hysterically fun, naked road machine. The design brief was to make this Tuono again the most extreme of its class, which they've certainly done. Though this time the sheer power of that RSV4 engine was such that it's rumoured that the lack of downforce from the minimal fairing from a naked bike meant it was impossible to stop the front end going light at over 150mph. So, they've paired back the power slightly to 162bhp in favour of peak torque at 1,000rpm lower in the rev range, making it a slightly more road friendly package.
There will be two models to start with; one with the standard electronics package as seen on the RSV4, and one with the full Aprilia Performance Rider Control electronic aids package as seen in the Aprilia RSV4 APRC. APRC includes: ATC - Aprilia Traction Control, ALC - Aprilia Launch Control, AWC - Aprilia anti-Wheelie Control, AQS - Aprilia Quick Shifter together with a switchable Track/Street instrument display. Read the above link for a more detailed description of APRC, but it's by some margin the most sophisticated electronics package on any bike from any manufacturer today. Motorcycle journalists are giving the system rave reviews, concluding that it allows the rider to be both significantly faster AND safer AND to have more fun.
Respected journalist, Kevin Ash on APRC: "The sheer exhilaration of being able safely to tighten the bike’s line while charging out of a turn at ferocious speed by dialing in more back wheel spin leaves you panting with excitement – take away from the rider? Oh no, this adds a whole new dimension...".
Also inherited from the RSV4 APRC is the new exhaust system which is 2kg lighter and has a new exhaust valve that gives a smoother power delivery and even better sound, closer spaced gears 1, 2 and 3, as well as various engine internal improvements.
The V4R also gets fully adjustable Sachs 43mm upside down forks and fully adjustable Sachs rear monoshock and Sachs steering damper, Brembo radial mounted 4 pot caliper front brakes and new 3 spoke wheels that are 2kg lighter than the RSV4R.
Weight overall is 179kg before liquids, and the fuel tank capacity is 17 litres.
Introductory price of the regular V4 Tuono is expected to be £10,500 OTR and the Tuono V4 APRC to be £12,000 OTR, going up to £11,500 and £12,500 respectively in the next production run, with availability from 1st April 2011. Colours will initially be black and silver.
