Despite 38 MotoGP championship titles, and now both 2010 World Superbike Championship titles, Aprilia's racing roots are actually in off-road bikes from the 70s and 80s, which gave rise to 50-250cc two-stroke and 350-600cc four-stroke adventure bikes named Tuareg after the African Rally bikes.
On the back of Aprilia's podium in the last Dakar with the Aprilia RXV550, and Francisco “Chaleco” López's win on the RXV450 in Pharaons Rally a few weeks ago, they're launching the Aprilia Tuareg 750 Enduro at the Eicma Motorcycle Show in Milan on the 2nd November.
Based around the Shiver/Dorsoduro 750 engine, and designed by Galluzzi, this adventure bike has the potential to capture a significant slice of the mid range sector with all it's off-road heritage and current expertise.
A more road focused Tuareg 1200, with a load of electronic aids, is likely to be on the cards to compete with the likes of BMW's 1200GS and Yamaha's 1200 Super Ténéré.
