Got back from an 18000KM trip around europe 3 weeks ago. Two up with camping gear for 3 and a half months on a Pegaso Trail 07. One fuel pump replaced in Spain, a tyre in Hungary and the chain in Holland. Two services, Spain and Germany. Bike handled the distance and weight well tho it won't start now and is in Wallasey Aprilia. They've had it a week and won't work on it until Aprilia confirm its a warranty job. Not sure what the problem is...

Hi John , sorry to hear about your accident, hope you n your confidence recover soon . Best get your car fixed ASAP with this snow and _hite weather predicted for next week . Dont know where to get cheap Prilla bits from though maybe MCN spares classified ort gud owd tinternet thru E Bay . Havent even cleaned mine since last run must be dark nights blues , no motorsport (only `ball games` on the telly) I really hate this time of year just restrict myself to push bike riding with my two dogs down the canal n abandoned railway lines, did 25 miles with them last Sunday , Little Lever to Bury via canal then Radciffe to Kersall on old railway tracks . Thought about doing it on the Prilla with them to save my lungs but there are loads of WE WILL CRUSH YOUR BIKE IF WE CATCH YOU signs everywhere! Anyway 5 or 6 weeks and everything comes to life again, the dark side of force will relinquish its grip n its time to let rip ! Plus there is things on the telly with wheels to watch again . Keep your pecker up speak to you soon .

Hi Micko
well the rotten winter got the better of me.... my car had to go in for repairs forcing me to use the bike. All was well until I had to ull off the Mway to refuel. One tiny stretch of road was coated in black ice, the bike went down so hard I had no time move my leg and the bike slammed down on my ankle. My ribs took a real knock too... Mirror, gear lever, handguard, indicator all need replacing. I've not had chance to look at the bike since so unsure of full extent. If you have any ideas where I can get replacements pls let me know. I'd just got new TCX infinity boots which prevented my ankle breaking amazingly! Badly swollen aqnd painful but will mend soon hopefully!

Hi John , MERRY XMAS to you too , I had a ride to Whitchurch with my daughter last Sunday before they put all this salt down.Nice there in Summer quite a few bikes congregate there, but only one other bike when we went. A good run that A49 past Oulton Park.Another good run is to Betsw y coed via Ruthin down the A 494 and then on the A5, unfortunately the police helicopter know its popular with bikers too. Ive about a dozen good rides stored in my TOMTOM ready for spring/summer. Its surprising the difference some decent music and being told which way to go makes to the ride,a lot more chilled and at the end of the ride just press Home with distance (for fuel ) and ETA (for the earbashing off the missus when your tea is burnt to a cinder!).Heres to a happier new year, glad to see the back of this one to be honest. Ride safe n keep in touch.

Thanks Micko, that is really useful information, I'm off from today for a few days so plenty of time to experiment!! I hope to get up to the barn for a hot chocolate at some point too! Just ordered some new TCX boots on the strength of the RIDE review as mine are more like a sieve...! Have a great Xmas and maybe see you up there. John

Hi John Ive tried my screen on all 4 settings and it doesnt make any difference to the racket. Im 6 foot 2 and it only keeps the wind blast off my chest but even thats better than a naked bike. Ive come to the conclusion ear plugs from work are the only answer for a fast ride. If you want to experiment with yours remove the two nuts on the inside of the screen ( 8mm spanner ) which will release the stainless cover plates. This will expose the buttonhead allen bolts ,if you remove all 4 of these the screen comes off and you swap the "top hat ferrule" type things to the lower as yet unused holes. This will raise the screen about 50mm , to alter the screen angle towards you put the longer ferrules in the lower holes and the shorter ones in the upper holes giving 4 possible permutations. None of these did the trick for me but as you are shorter you could benefit. I think its too low even in the high position but also not wide enough the way it tapers towards the top. Hand guards are great but dont know about power commanders anyone else out there tried one ?

Hi Micko, so sorry to hear your tragic news mate.....
I wondered if you could help? My screen makes my helmet really noisy - it directs the air to the lid and is deafening! Can you remember how to adjust it? Handguards are great really help keep most of cold air/rain off...Took a dorsoduro out again with a view to chopping mine in.... Great bike but made me realise that mine was still a great machine. The wind blasted my chest on the DD and the helmet was almost silent hence the thought about dropping it down (I'm 5'7" BTW) Fancy a power commander next - have you got one? Anyone know of the benefits and if worth £220+???
Catchup soon

Hi John sorry about the tardy reply a lot has happened in the last 3 weeks some good some sad. Yes I was at the Barn 2 weeks ago, we went to Southport cafe (at the side of the big white bridge), and called at Rivvy on the way back. All lads I work with ~ red bull Blade, GTR 1400, 650 V Strom, and my 2 up Peg, slight power to weight ratio variance in that motley group eh? Anyway we all kept roughly together who needs 100+ BHP? Back to more depressing matters my family have suffered another death, my 30 year old nephew came home from work after being sick last Friday, his brother found him dead on Saturday lunchtime. Post Mortem said burst Dueodeanal ulcer! He had been to his G.P. 3 days earlier and told it was just a bug thats doing the rounds.Went to bike show last Sunday really good, especially as it was a freebie wined/dined/delivered/returned job through work. Finally Ive just got home from indoor karting with the rabble from work, what a riot! just 1 lad with sore(probably cracked)ribs, they said "drive it like you ve just stolen it" and we did , its good to be alive init?

Hi everybody Ive not been on line for a while just lost my dad to lung cancer.Anyway on to more pleasant things the Peg now has a Tom Tom Rider 2 to stop me getting lost and know where the dreaded speed cameras are. As Ive already got Autocom fitted I didnt bother using the bluetooth Scala headset supplied and got a dongle to plug into the Autocom box under the seat. Its brilliant, if you dont want the "take next left turn directions" just dont enter a destination but you still get visual and audio warnings of cameras. An added bonus is finding petrol staions, cash machines etc,now the dongles in the autocom I can recieve and make phone calls on the move through the sat nav.If you find a "good road" you can mark in "favourites" and it will store it.For an extra £38 you can buy the car mount that has a built in speaker in the sucker thing for the windscreen. The only thing thats left on the bike when its not in use is a u bolted post on the handlebars and a plug in power supply.

Hi Johnnie
When I picked up my new strada, I was recommended to spray WD40 under seat area electrics to ensure fault free wet weather running. Check the oil immediately after a run - engine needs to be hot to get true level.
Otherwise just oil and adjust the chain and have fun!!

Just tested the Mana, Shiver and Dorsoduro.
Mana is a surprising bike, agile, smooth, powerful and as an everyday bike, makes total sense.
The Shiver is a lovely quick eager bike - feels like a streetfighter. But my fave is the dorsoduro - I am still grinning from ear to ear! marvellous!

Hi John I went up to the quarry on a road past a farm . The road is near that Bleakholt animal rescue place , its a zig zag affair where they take the tube sections up the hill.Anyway when I got there they were unloading gearbox heads and filling fuel bowsers so I couldnt get past but nobody said you cant go any farther.

Thanks for the info - I use them quite a bit at RKT CTR... Can you ride up the maintenance road up to the Windmills?
I've walked up around that area - I can see the latest ones from my house now - I think they're good - better than cooling towers anyday!
Do you have to go through the quarry to get to them?
I'd probably ise my Mtn Bike up there.....

Hi John I ordered the hand guards through the Rocket Centre just overt thill from you in Blackburn TEL 01254 297810 and ask for Frazer. When mine arrived (about 2 weeks) the fitting instructions mentions 2 little brackets but mine were missing, Frazer got back on to Italy they said they arent necessary (and they arent) as carbon fibre is so rigid , just blank the hole with an M4 bolt like I did . They should fit the Strada as they fit my Trail OK and the mounting points namely mirror stalk and bar end weight are the same I think . Does the Strada have a 6 speed box and a fuel guage , the Trail only has a 5 speed box and a fuel light. I was up your neck of the woods the other weekend on Scout Moor looking at your new Wind Farm thats sprung up recently, its a bit dusty but dooable on anything but a racerep.

I always look for a filling station at about 120 mls cos Ive caught out before on previous bikes n theres nowt worse than shuvvin. When fuel light comes on the trip changes from miles done to zero and counts up from that point just to make ur r sole twitch as I recall. Dont know about a reserve tap like my Ducati has, I cant find one on the Peg, dont think new fangled fuel injected bikes have em.Bike magazine April 2007 issue group tested a Peg trail vs XT Yam (same engine) vs Kwack KLE 500 vs CCM 404DS and reckon the Peg does A and B roads 48 mpg, motorway 55 mpg , average 51.5 mpg and a range of 181 mpg but unless your local n know where the next juice is Id stick to 130- 140 mls as once bitten! Anway do you like your Peg?

Just bought a Aprilia 650 Trail this week and running it in. Dealer in Orrel said when fuel light comes on you've got about 10 miles till you run out? Can this be right - came on at about 140 miles, but didn't want to risk running out - anyone give me a bit of guidance as the handbook says 16 litres, 3.5 on "reserve", so I'd expect to have about 30-40 miles before fumes, and was hoping for about 180ish to a tank full. Hi everybody Ive not been on the peg much since Christmas, trouble with ageing parents, kids breaking legs, n lots of other things too, anyway back to the peg.Its done 1200 mls now so Im giving it some berries n buzzing it to 6000 rpm (buzzing being the appropiate word),not used to big single vibes yet after a relatively smooth vee twin! Perfomance is ok solo up to 80 mph but a bit breathless 2 up at high speeds (my kids are big uns now).Missus (who isnt a big un and slightly vertically challenged)wont go on it and prefers my old Ducati.Ive fitted some Akrapovic carbon hand guards nice but dear at around £100 and an autocom system so my daughter can tell me to slow down instead of punching me in the ribs. Anyway signing off now due to Pegaso induced white finger vibration!

Hello all . The answer to the wet starting problem is not to wash it ! My bike developed a clunk from the front forks . Diagnosed as a broken fork spring , it turned out to be "worn-out bushes ". At 5000 miles , and no wheelies . Honest . I am not impressed .(I used to be) 2 weeks , and no parts yet . ....

Hi Stewart
When I bought mohe I was advised to spray WD40 liberally over the electrics under the seat which I have dine and I ride in all weathers. I am always careful not to over-wet the engine/seat/clocks when washing and have never experienced that issue.
Good luck

Many thanks for the advice Steve n Jim. Took mine for its 1000KM 1ST service and asked about the snatchy fuelling problem, the mechanic sorted it by looking in a manual and going for a test ride on it, presumably so I couldnt see the code they put in for the DIAGNOSIS section in MENU. I think thats how he adjusted the CO2, anyway it feels a lot better now. Regarding the screen noise problem Im going to drop the screen to the lower setting and if that dont work machine some longer top hats for the upper screen mounts. This should stand the screen up a bit more vertical like those Paris Dakar type KTMs. Cheers and will keep you posted.

Picked up my new peg trail in sep o7, very impressed with bike so far, might swap the dwarfs seat for the tall one but put off by comments of it not being as comfy. Are the prilla hand guards any good?Mine also feels a bit snatchy / fluffy on the fuelling but KJM Superbikes (who supplied it) reckon they can dial it out at its 1st service by adjusting the CO 2 level.Does anyone get a lot of wind noise/buffeting at 70 plus, may be a tall person thing but the screens on the higher setting.

JIM - Did you get your adjustable screen? I bought one for mine from Rocket Ctr.... parts take a long while from Italy though;O(
It makes quite a difference on MWays and adds to the look of the bike... You can tuck down behind it to take the wind almost completely off you.
I fitted two tone snail shell horns to replace the feeble roadrunner horn./ They are seriously loud and warn texting, dozing, newspaper reading drivers on the M60 that I am coming through.... they took a bit of fitting but in black are not very noticeable under the fairing.

Hi all.I run a Pegaso Trail, which i bought new in June 06.The first year i covered only 1400 miles just mucking about locally without any problems.2 weeks before the first service,i took her on a 2,700 mile tour of France. This riding without pillion, and loaded up with topbox, throwover panniers and a small suitcase on the back seat bungied to the frame. The bike exceeded my expectations completely.I used motorways most of the time often riding at 85-90 mph.I had an absolute ball on this bike (much more fun than my 600 Hornet)It never missed a beat, and the only niggle was the fuel light staying on in 38 degree heat.(It went off under this temperature)
My only gripe with the Pegaso Trail,is heat from the exposed exhausts (end cans included)
Do any of you know if i can get heat shields,to stop my luggage frying ?

Welcome Jonny . Like you , i was hooked on sports bikes , but am well pleased with my Pegaso . Do the Akropovics increase the power , or make it smoother .?? Cheers Barry. I have now done 4000 miles on the Strada, and to be honest i am not aware of any injection stutter, given that i am still on the original rear tyre, might be the way that i ride. One point took out the air filter to clean it tapped it on a firm surface, and whith what fell out planter rubarb, Astonishingy, it seems to be quicker ?? enough for me to consider a K/N filter.

Hiya Karen & thanks for info on Akropovics . Thanks Jim for explaining to Karen about chain snatch ! Not a difficult job but worthwhile . The low-speed stutter has been helped by a Power Commander , but it still isn't perfect . I suppose it is an unusual engine . At the local 3day bike rally , mine was the only Pegaso amoung thousands of bikes . Don't suppose Aprilia would be interesrsd ?? Keep ridin'safe .... Atengsupposeday bike rally , mine was the only Pegaso .

Hi Karen. when there is a lot of slack in the chain there is a minute delay between the transnission of power from the engine to the rear wheel until the slack in the chain has taken uo,thus Snatch. I adjusted mine after 4000 mile, and it is tangibly smoother. The chain adjustment is part of the service routine, unless you are doind wheelies or full bore accelerationi would have thought that you should not have any trouble.

Hi Barry, i have akropovics on my strada. They look really cool and are much muchlighter than the originals. With baffles out they sound ace and seem to make the bike a bit faster, but it could be wishful thinking! I still love my strada and there don't seem to be many around. But can someone explain to me about this chain business, and it helping to reduce snatchiness at low speeds? Should i ask my dealer to do it, or approach aprilia as it does seem to be a manufacturing issue? If enough people mention it they might sort it out. Oh yes, I got a screen too, very expensive but does make a significant difference, especially on more open roads. Cheers, karen

Hiya again . A bit to add to my previous . The chain adjustment has made a huge improvement to the low speed snatch . I suppose because there's no slack to take up ? with those big bangs going on, the smoother the power line is , the better . Aren't we having some problems , or don't we hear from all the good ones ?? I still like the bike , got 90 out of it last week . Could do with some wind protection .Aprilia screen not big enough ,apparently .If any of you are planning a holiday next year,we have a bike rally here in early May.Amazing stunt rider !! I've just adjusted my chain for the first time. It seems to be stretching like knicker elastic !! Like the light weight , acceleration , and the noise . Anybody fitted Akropovics ?? Regards .

Good to see the truth is out about the 3-4K fueling problems. Feels like poor engine mapping to me but Aprilia should fix this F.O.C. under warranty if enough of us complain, and complain, and......
For the moment, the only cure is to stay above 4K rpm. Difficult when your running in a new bike as I am. (Pegasso Trail)
I like the new bike, more sophisticated than the MZ Baghira (same bike, different country) I had stolen last year but it feels "under tyred."
Has anyone out there tried a fatter back wheel and/or a smaller front wheel?
Luggage problems. Aprilia do a rear carrier (not a thing of beauty) at a reasonable price and a top box at a very silly price. But you dont need to be a genius to fix almost anything on to the platform of the carrier.
Hand guards are good on wet or cold days but you don't need to spend £90 with Aprilia. Decent after market one are available for around £50. If they're OK for KTM to fit as standard, that will do for me.
Spent a long journey looking for the two 4K rpm buzzez I had. Easy one was the top box lid. A short bit of draught excluder foam stopped that.
Second one took longer to find. It was the dealer supplied key fob resting on the top yoke. Easy, instant, obvious fix for that one.

I've just returned to biking after a 7 year spell away from a ZX6R. It had to go as it was going to lead me astray.... if yuo know what I mean! The awful M60 commute to work got me thinking about buying a cheap hack to get to work on. After reading your comments and various reviews, I went for a brand new (06) Strada in very bright red. Still running her in but what fun! Only bugbear is the fuel gauge which showed a half full tank, no warning light and NO FUEL! 'A very nice man' took us to the dealers where she remains all over the SUNNY Easter weekend to investigate. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello, i've been to the Doctor and he prescribed two track day holidays in Spain!! thets where I've been!! In relation to the seat Jim i have still not managed to get a qoute for the recovering. As soon as I do I will let you know.
i have also had steamed up clocks which I showed to the dealer and told them if it happens again I want it sorted under warranty. In fact whilst I still love the bike Iam getting a bit concerned about reliabilty and build qaulity. After getting wet on more than one occassion it has been reluctant to start, the paint has started to bubble a bit on the lh side engine casing and I had one day of the neutral light coming on for no apparent reason!! I have never had any problems like that on Jap bikes after years of ownership never mind a few months. The paint is mosy annoying because i have never let salt get on the bike and iam always cleaning it and Im not sure how the dealer intends to sort that one out?!

Hi Karen, ref screen? you are wright. The synthetic oil ? i am told that the lubricating propertiys and heat absortion ability ,are much greater than mineral oil. As a consequence most mechanics sugest 8000 miles on mineral oil to let the engine bed in. In my case i had some spare and bunged it in. ?? i have never had any injection glitches. What the oil did was to transform the smoothness of the gearbox. """ now i am buying a sceen ?? anyone got a high seat or will swop with owner of a Trail. cheers jim.

I have a Pegaso Strada on which I've quickly done 570 miles . Love it ! Had lots of "fast" stuff , but this is really FUN ! Have problem with fuelling at low revs and gears but otherwise NO complaints . soggy indicator switch and difficulty in finding neutral if I was really fussy. Still really rate the thing for FUN !!

Hi Andy, a motercycle accident in 1971 paralysed my right arm. 22 bikes later which include 4 x 500cc scotters to date the strada is one of the best bikes i have owned. the sheer handling and agility is superb.allied to the user friedly power output this bike can be ridden with aplomb. i will keep this bike forever unless the new MANA is irresistable. safe miles, cheers jim.

Hi karen h, i have also noticed a buzzing noise around 3000 revs and have found it to be coming from the fuel filler cover im not sure of the best way of stopping it apart from cracking open the throttle a bit more sorry i cant be a bit more helpfull but enjoy your peg any way.

hI Suzi whatever happens, DO NOT let your other half ,ride the strada. He will bin the vfr,and run off with your bike. I believe the strada is possibly one of the best handling bike of the 22 i have owned in the last 10 years,as told to me the technique for conering a big single is turn in late and power it out using the torque. cheers jim.

Greetings to the blessed. Rightly or wrongly have just changed eng oil on the Strada. had some fully synthetic oil ,so i used it . The change in the operation of the gearbox is amazing, the clunkiness is gone and it is now silky smooth,? i know that it is early [1000m/s ] to use synthetic but after 140 mile trip yesterday the eng ticks over like a watch, I will keep all the elite posted. Cheers JIM.

would be nice to see the Pegaso once again imported to the US. apparently they once were, back when there were few and far between dealerships, but now they aren't available for some reason. the sister bike (bmw's g650) IS but there is enough of a difference that I would choose the Pegaso Trail, ESPECIALLY if they brought back the TUSCANY TIBET RAID! (or one similarly outfitted)

I,m realy pleased with my 2006 pegaso trail it is one of the best bikes i,ve ever had.i have covered 2000 miles so far. When the bike is cold it selects first gear realy smoothly but when warmed up after a run it becomes very clunky engaging first. I,ve spoken to a local aprilia dealer and he recons they all do that. but not knowing any other owners i,ve only his word for it. I would intrested in any owners coments.

Picked it up on Saturday did nearly 200miles over the weekend in all weathers and conditions. What a fabulous little bike. Fun, comfy, easy to ride, handled tons better than expected and actually was admired by lots of bikers! Even enduro lads and BMW adventure owners??! Totally different riding experience to my gixer750 but sooo competent. On a bike like this you can actually enjoy the dodgy weather, dirty roads etc. For the money i'd recommend one of these bikes to anyone. Im just hoping the reliability is there, im sure it will be? I can't really think of anything bad? the indicator switch is a bit odd because it doesnt click when you switch it off. Back end felt a bit soft too so i'm going to get the dealer to increse the pre load when it goes for service. I also think the lack of a fuel gauge is weird on the Trail when there is one on the strada??? Once I was used to the bike and the brakes had bedded in it is amazing how quick this bike will go round twisty roads. I left my mate on his fireblade for dust!! To be fair it was very wet. But thats the point sureley?

Just piad for a new Pegaso Trail from KJM Superbikes in Wigan. Always had sports bikes so this is definatley different. My other bike is a GSXR750K5! Looking forward to picking it up on Saturady and Iam already planning my very own (short) long way round scotland for next year! To me its a very nice neat looking bike and caught my eye straight away. I was also looking at bikes like the Yam 660xt but I just kept coming back to the Aprilia! I'll post back my first impressions. Is there anyone else out there who has one already?

12 months of Pegaso Strada ownership. Excellent machine but takes awhile to clean up after wet UK weather. For a single, engine is very pliant & quick enough whether on the motorway or usual road use.
Brakes are good, comfortable seat & turns quickly. Good underseat carry space & overall a good looking bike.
I've bought several new & used bikes in recent times & the Strada is top of the pile for enjoyment. Sunset red machine is faster than the black one.
[Adrian Draper from 16-9-04 message board] In case you haven't found out, engine is Yamaha XT660.

I am a freelance journo doing a feature for MCN on the Pegaso 650. If you have owned, or at least ridden, a pre 2003 Pegaso, plus a later model, then we want rider opinions on performance, handling, reliability, mods made etc.
Also a head n shoulders type pic via email.
If you can spare 5-10 mins, please email a contact number and I will call you back when it suits you.
The deadline is Monday 10th October 2005. Cheers Alastair W. alastair@insidebikes.com

Had a Pegaso for 7 years current 1 a 2002 650ie. Really fancied replacing it with a Strada in Septmeber. Just got back from the dealers having seen one in the flesh for the first time. The handlebar set up is not like in the publicity pictures. They were lower and flatter than expected. The brochures show quite a high rise with a cross piece. Are they all supplied with the lower bars?

Harri, the latest generation CPUs on these bikes seems to give the dealer a lot more control over the fuelling than ever before. once they've entered a pin number they can use the mode switch to adjust it. even allows a bit of room for personal preferences (mine's low end torque for rush hour commuting). my dealer has a Dyno which really helped to get me what i wanted. these bikes are very new, so suggest you take back to yr dealer, once he's had more experience. excellent bike btw!

I got my Pegaso Strada 2nd of July 2005. Today (11th of August) I have 2000km behind. I'm mainly satisfied, but the shaky running between 3000 - 4000 rpm with steady throttle is disturbing me. In Aprilia service they told that the reason is fuel injection and the current exhaust discharge regulations. They did some adjustments but it didn't help.

I took one out last weekend. I'm giving up my serious ZX12 for a couple of years to have a bit of a laugh on the fun Strada. Shame, I love my ZX12, but I think I need a bit of a rest from the G-Force for a bit and go back to some of the more care-free riding for a bit. My Strada is due by the end of the month. Cool!
