to craig with the rs 125 which smokes alot. you are riding a 2 stroke 125 with a performance engine it is going to smoke like mad when cold it should only do this for about the first minute of starting i could suggest however never ride it before it has warmed up properly this should minimize the aount of smoke that is kicked out of it it should also improve the perfomance of the engine when you do ride it.

about the rs with misfiring problems the reason you may be having to run it on part choke is to get more fuel in to make up the compression i would advise checking your piston rings as the rs engines have a very bad habit of eating them like they were going out of fashion especially if you are running it at high rpm. its nt the first problem you may look for but the symptoms fit.

I am riding rs125 for around 4 month and its one of the best handling for its cc but when it come to my country its powers been restricted. Believe me after running in for 1000km I blasted and only managed 120km!!! I was devastated. After opening some restiction and spending a few thousand dollars, I barely can hit 155km!!! Pls advice me how can I change the CDI restiction. And before I forget, I am using Spain No 1 which ironically does not have a valve!!! I have an rpm of 14 and yet I can never hit 12!!! Just think about it, a japanese bike passing by an aprilia!!! which cost less than half the price and not forgetting about image!!! But one thing for sure, they can never handle like an Aprilia!!! Thats why I still believe in Aprilia and I need advice.

This is a good one.I've got a 98 rs125.It ran ok then one day started misfiring.thought it was elec problem so replaced nearly everything but it was still the same.Maybe crank seals had gone so put in new, still the same.then found it ran ok with slight choke so changed carb, manifold reed block.still misfiring.got given an enine with only a few thousand miles on so stuck that in,still will only run on part choke,if the choke is fully off it'll run for a few more seconds then die and won't restart without choke no matter how warm.has anyone got even the slightest idea what is wrong and how to fix it?

fuel tap is off when arrow facing towards front wheel, on when arrow facing up & reserve is upside down/towards rear..... my problem is the pipe on the 'normal/on' tank has moved/broken or blocked, as i get £4/5 of petrol, then i have to switch to reserve. as yopu can imagine, i have to be careful of how far i travel whilst on reserve all the time! - can the pipe move/get tugged further up? pls help!!!!!!

This has only happened once so far and havent spoken to garage about it yet, but my RS125 is fine in 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th gear, but when i put it into 5th or 6th, it didnt seem to beable to accelerate, and very gradually loses revs and started to slow down < only very gradually though, im still a learner - was this driver error or something more concerning?

Hey, I'm just wondering, I'm coming up to 16 years old. I'm real interested in getting an RS50, but would it be possible to get a RS125 at 16 y.o as well, if it was correctly restricted? This would save me buying one bike, use it for a year, then have to buy another bike as soon as I'm 17. Cheers guys, great website.

123 Motors were fitted in RS125's until 1999 when they changed to 122s with the new shape bodywork. I think my RS is the WICKEDEST little bike I have ever encountered , if I had known about them before I would have had one years ago instead of messing with all them big bikes. Not a cheap toy to run though but its fun to have something you can have a good 'fettle' with in the garage as well as going for a blast of a summer evening , mind you if I want to go any distance.......Its good for the run to work tho'Which I hasten to add is not a commute but a tremendous twisty 25 miles across the middle of Lincs into Leics. RS125 country !

I have just bought a 1996 rs125 Chesterfield, but engine has Rotax 123 stamp on case so think the engine may have been changed. The oil pump has been disconnected. Previous owner used to mix petrol / oil in tank. Does anyone know the correct petrol / oil ratio (using Silcoline fully synthetic oil)?

make sure you always warm it up and use decent fully synthethic oil. I've always warmed mine up to 50c before setting off and kept it under 6k rpm until its upto running temp (70c). Hasnt skipped a beat in 3years.

Tip: It can be worth investing some time in cosying up to your Aprilia dealer, u know, buy all your bits and pieces through them, get to know their names and stuff. Cos if you get a good relationship going, some of em will give u an option 4 using pattern parts 4 engine rebuilds, esp if they know you're short of dosh. some pattern parts r just as good as the genuine stuff, some are rubbish, the dealer will know. the £750 rebuild figure will be nearer £500 inc barrel and everything. dont re-plate the barrels, it don't work. i know!
