There is great ones on ebay for 44€90.
Search for "Béquille Aprilia NA 850 Mana/SL Shiver 750/Tuono 2"
There is one thing: You have to cut a small piece of rubber from the front support to not push on the front ABS sensor when you lift it up.
ps: I have a Schubert C3 and it fits in the trunk.

Jimmy - interesting news that Honda are developing some new CVT bikes.
Apparently there was a big article on CVT/automatic bikes in the March edition of Bike magazine.
I didn't see it but don't know if anyone has a copy ?

Do you think the Mana is the start of a trend in bikes (i.e. CVT/Auto) or do you think it will be a one off ?

Hi All
Sorry haven't posted for a while.
Quick question - how often are you supposed to clean the chain, and what do you use for it ?
Also does anyone know how the Mana is selling - i.e. is it doing ok ?
Finally, does anyone know if there are any plans to bring out (or does there exists) a sports type bike with the Mana style auto gearbox etc ? Think would be a great combination
Cheers

Just had 6k service & fitted Dunlop Roadsmarts for better handling in the wet instead of the Qualifiers as I'm a year round commuter, not a racer! Handling greatly improved even while running in - well worth considering IMO. Very happy with bike though Aprilia screen a bit of a mixed blessing as creates more turbulence at head level (at motorway speeds).

Hi John Richmond, I don't have the use of my left arm and have mostly ridden side cars. I want to get back on two wheels and the Mana seems to be the way to go. I need to do tha same as you and shift the throttle and hand brake to the left hand side. Has it worked well for you? Any complications with shifting to the various modes of transmission? Hi John, you're a lucky lad being so close to Skye and the west highlands. It's a hell of a long motorway ride (in the rain!!) from here in East Anglia. I am generally more tempted to head over the Channel to France and Italy with usually better weather and where bikers are not treated like 2nd class citizens. Maxmoto fitted an Aprilia screen to my Mana from new and it is worth the cost. I'm 6ft 3 and it keeps most of the windblast off on its highest setting. My bike was not recalled but it makes an interesting moo-ing noise after a run! I wonder if this is the tank pressure valve working ?

Howard, glad to hear you're both healing.Mail me at steve.allen47@ntlworld.com and I'll try and send some pics of the belt drive. I am interested in your misty speedo..mine is the same but a tentative warranty enquiry got fobbed off...how did you get them to agree or was it damaged in the fall? A front guard extension stops the steaming, 'tho mine was not too bad, perhaps I extended it before I had been in the wet so much.

thanks for everybody,s concern, were both healing, although alot slower than we used to,no word on the bike yet.i like the look of the gt,improvments to suspension are good, not to bothered about abs though.i like the idea of belt drive,i,d like to see steve,s conversion.i,ve had a few harley,s with belt drive, definitley an improvment on a chain,a friends road king did 74000 miles on the original belt.must agree with everyone about the front mudguard i,ll be looking to extend mine when i get the bike back, when stopping in heavy rain the front of the bike gets engulfed in steam, does anybody else have that happen.i,m also having the speedo housing replaced due to steaming up.thats being done while the rest of the bikes is getting fixed.regarding alternative website, try af1 racing(i think that what its called)its american, lots of interesting stuff on it,thanks all again howard

Mana GT, you are right Uncle Bob, ABS & Remote adjustable rear shock, also manual adjustment to the screen and fork preload adjustment have been added. All sensible additions, although I can live without ABS, but I just wish they had addressed a few more issues eg mudguards, centre stand, heated grips....maybe in time. I have also fitted a front guard fender extender to protect the rad. I improved the forks by changing to 20w oil as I found them under damped and disliked the way they would rebound too quickly when letting the brakes off and tipping into a corner, they are now better but still room for improvement. the price you pay with a budget set of forks.

Have just had a further look at the pics of the new Mana Gt.As well as the fairing and ABS it looks to have a new rear suspension unit. Their is a black knurled adjustment knob (behind the parking brake) and the shock does not appear to have the click adjustment ring.

Steve, The pics of the Mana GT show 'ABS' on the front mudguard as well as the fairing which I agree looks good. I too have fitted a Skidmarx hugger and you are dead right it only helps a bit. I bought a pair of rubber mud flaps at the local motor spares shop (£5.99) and cut one to shape and fitted it to the front m/guard with 3X 3mm nuts and bolts in about 15mins. It looks fine and certainly protects the radiator which was my main concern.

my,screen turned up after aprox 2 weeks, brilliant piece of kit, fits straight on and looks like it belongs, fitted it on sunday and at 5am monday morning set of for the 10.30am cairnrian to larne ferry, screen was perfect cruising at motorway speeds and slightly above, had a great 5 days touring n.i.nice people, good roads, cold guiness,i,lldefinitley go again, hopfully a couple of weeks next time.called in at colleraine motorcycles,he had 2 mana,s in stock and said he,d sold 1 as well.had a good ride back until i was about 10 miles from home when i hit a sheep,i,ve got a broken arm and leg my partner got the footrest in the back of her calf and will need physio to get it working again when it all heels up.the bike has over £2000 damage, there not sure on price as aprilia have not listed all part nos and prices for the mana yet.carole nash wouldn,t fix the bike at there own repair centre because of problems getting aprilia parts.still i arn,t going to be able to ride it for a while yet.got to say tho it must be the best all round bike ive had in nearly 40 years of biking.ps i think our injuries would have been a lot worse if we hadn,t been wearing top quality gear.pps my new screen got smashed as well

Has anyone yet found a front mudguard extension to fit the Mana? Have just had a few days touring in West Wales where it has not stopped raining for most of the summer. Every minor road is a sea of mud and the radiator and front cylinder all but disappeared! Have now done nearly 3K miles and the Mana has never missed a beat, has used no oil and is a joy to ride- so smoooth! Does anyone know of any other Mana chat room?

Have just read this weeks MCN. They have fitted Ascerbis hand guards to their long term test mana and have found as I did, last week, that the fitting kit supplied does not actually go into the mana h/bar ends. The guards can be fitted by simply using the original bar end weight retaining bolts. These items do keep the wind blast off delicate fingers!

now done 1400 mls on my mana and am getting 58 miles to the gallon. some folk think the fuel (mpg) readouts on the computer are not accurate but in fact it shows readings in US gallons which are roughly 3/4 of UK gallons! only moan so far is the weedy rear brake but it is slowly bedding in and getting a bit better.

Was having quite a bit of fun on my 9-mile drive to work through Silicon Valley until the service light and SERVICE message came on at 500 miles - dealer was not able to disable at first service, second visit (did some shopping) or third visit (returned items from second visit). Light and SERVICE message continues to appear with each ride - dealer is investigating with Aprilia Tech Service USA. Then, I started losing power at take off, stalling at slow speed, and rough idle. Mana is in the garage and I'm driving the minivan... argh!

Just got back from 3000km trip to Southern France and back: greta bike for touring on! No problems apart from nasty handlebar vibrations after the shop fitted heated grips to the bike at the 1st service (so much so that my right thumb was going numb after 30mins). Definitely going to sort that out, as the vibes were no problem before. G

The issue was that the oil needed toping up !!!! The levels were fine, infact they were between and half and full on the sight glass, but the dealer topped it up with 1/3 litre and the problem went away. They even changed the oil sender unit. So for Mana owners it looks like the Mana is sensitive to oil levels just below the max.

the skidmarx hugger looks nice (have ordered one), but the 2 screens that they sent photos of: a large custom made screen (looks OK but a little big for what i want), and a smaller screen (really fugly, and a generic design). I am looking for a flyscreen, so might buy a miniscreen from highriders.co.uk, and see if i can get the old charlie to help me with mounting brackets. Just done my 1000kms for 1st service: off to southern France next week for 2 weeks touring. G

Paul W posted a while ago that he had his oil light coming on but not sure under what conditions. Mine is now doing the same, get the red light then the oil symbol in the display for about 2 secs. But it ONLY does it if you accelerate hard from a standstill. I havent been able to replicate it when you accelerate from say 30 mph onwards. Have spoken to the dealer and I have been asked to call back tomorrow to speak to someone who deals specifically with warranty and recall issues. But suspect they may want to have it in. Just wondered if anyone else has seen this, or if you have a straight piece of empty road give it a go, but glance at the display and see if at about 40 mph you see the light or display icon as its doesnt appear for very long ! and I get it even when the bike is fully warmed up after say almost an hour of riding so not an issue of it being cold.

Hi Jules
the manufactures of the Mana must have small heads as there is no way in h_ _l that my full face helmet will fit in the storage compartment.I can fit it in the side box but thats no good if travelling will the wife. Aug will be doing a 6000mile trip.(wife won't go on this one)A 300k trip found a few oil leaks so in shop being repaired

Hi Joffre - congrats on getting the 1st mana in Canada! Accessories are a real pain - I ordered my side boxes at end of March and still waiting! Waiting for them to come before I put in order for top box & rack - so could be 2010 before I get full set of luggage - however, am still loving the bike!!

just received my 2009 mana 850 june 20/08 (they tell me it is the 1st. in this country)my only complaint is the acces. like the windscreen and lower seat take so long to get here. Top & side boxes arr. before bike, bracket for top box is a separate order could be in anytime in the next 6 months. Other than that its a great bike. Will know more after break in

I too also heard about every week for the chain lube. You need to make sure that the lube is firendly towards O-ring type chains. The Castrol Chain Wax i bought in halfords says on the back it can be used on these types of chains. My small experience so far of petrol consumption is thaat I will do about 130 to 140 miles before the light comes on. Then I have about 3 Litres left, so probably safe to do about another 20 miles, still plenty of time to find a petrol station. I dont think your oil light should come on at all like that, mine doesnt. get it checked out by the dealer. i nearly bought a bike from that dealer near liverpool st, but got an exdemo from on-yerbike in Aylesbury who were very good, even when the bike would not start they picked it up from a local dealer and then delivered it back to me, a round trip of 150 miles. Turns out it was a dodgy connection to the starter motor which is right underneath the middle of the bike. The symptom was just a click from a relay when I hit the starter button. The shiver apparently has the starter motor right up front, so probably even worse unless you have a front mud guard extender.

Hi Jules - thanks for your message. I just talked to Fahmi at The Aprilia Centre (nr Liverpool St station) where I got the bike (they're great by the way). He said that the only thing that needs to be done is to lube the chain once a week if possible in order to prolong its life. Apparently after that all you need to do is the regular services as per the maintenance book or if the service light comes up on the display. Hope that helps !

Hi Paul - being another ex- scooterite I am in the dark about chain lube etc - The service book says regularly - but how often is that? I know it probably depends on conditions/use etc but should it be roughly once a week or once a month?? Perhaps someone will let us know. By the way, my oil light doesn't do that!

I too have only come from scooters and i guess the main one is chain lubrication and tension. I bought some chain wax from halfords that was friendly to the I-ring type of chain that the mana appears do have.

I recently took delivery of my mana and am loving it. However, before the mana I've only ever owned scooters, and basically the only ever maintenance that was done on the scooters was at service time. Howevevr, I was wondering what kind of regulary/weekly maintenance needs to be done on the mana. I know what it says in the manual, but do people really do that ? Thanks in advance

Re: Jim Grace
I returned mine and swapped for the Shiver as I was having vibration issues. I think they all have a little bit of it. Even the Aprilia rep said its a characteristic of the bike. I could not live with it. Rest of bike is top and well worth it, I enjoyed it. Ordered the luggage but that still hasnt showed up after 2 months.

cent, I don't honestly think the fairing will do anything except protect the bike. You will get the protection you need from the screen. I'm still waiting for this and the aprilia lugage to arrive which I will fit myself when it arrived. Steve, what heated grips and hand guards did you fit ? Piccies would be nice if you get time at markg@waxcomms.com
Sounds like you get pretty good consumption, did you find your consumption went down the more miles you did, mines only just got over 1000 miles now so I guess the engine is still running in even though the initial 600 is done.

Sorry, forgot to say that I use Touring 90% of the time, just the occassional Sport when the red mist of competition beckons...usually someone with a hyper sportsbike but little ability...why don't they have a bike they can get the best out of instead of 100 horses more than they can handle! Just occassionally I slip it into manual to see the rev lights go through their sequence, but I get bored with that quite quickly. As regards riding in town, have you tried downshifting whilst in auto touring? A touch on button or foot drops it a gear...good for steep gradients etc....but you have to shift up again to re-engage auto. Personally I find it good in town in auto, but I am not in heavy city traffic.Rain mode keeps the revs up but power is much less, Sport I find very on/off in traffic...best avoided.

Do not believe your Italian computer mpg...if it is like my Guzzi Breva 110 and now the Mana it is 15 to 20% out, I kid you not...check consumption by keeping a "fill to fill" log of miles and fuel. That is where my averages come from. I get 140/150 miles on my local running before the reserve light comes on, on holiday that went up to 170/180 and I then need between 12 and 13.5 litres to fill.
Cent
I have the Aprilia screen which I find to be very good weather and wind protection(much better than before I got it) cross winds etc are no problem. I have also fitted hand guards and heated grips which combat my poor circulation and keep my hands warm.
I hope this helps, Steve

I would agree with all your comments Steve. Got my exdemo mana with just over 700 miles on it. Have done 300 miles myself now as my commute is about 65 miles return. On the dash it says average about 43 mpg, so you seem to be getting quite a bit more. What distance on average to you get between fill ups ? I think its turning out to be thirstier than I expected. What transmission mode do you mainly use ? I find in sports gear you can get better miles around town as you can get up the gears quicker and stay there as opposed to auto touring mode which holds the revs higher.

Re. vibration, I have now done 3600 miles on my mana (since 8 march)including some boring motorways and have only noticed vibes through the footrests at around 80 on motorway type riding or when "playing" in manual mode at slightly lower speeds on fun roads....it is not a problem.
overall I am very pleased with the Mana and as MCN said it is a brilliant bike, my complaints are only that they styled it for a younger rider, rather than a 60 year old ex roadracer looking for sensible exhilerating ride. I would like to see far better protection from the mudguards, a centre stand and the belt drive that the prototypes had. My own belt drive conversion should be on the road by the end of next week....no more chain oiling for me. On a 1700 mile holiday in Cumbria and the lakes last week it averaged 61 mpg and was just brilliant up the lake district "passes" but watch out for the freewheel cutting in at 8 to 10 mph on the way down! Keep the brake covered or better still add a bit of power and hold it back on the rear brake seemed to keep it engaged in gear to a slower speed. Bye for now.

I have not had any problems. The vibes I can feel are mainly through the foot pegs, buy nothing much through the bars. However I came from a nexus which is a single, so most things will feel smooth compared to that. On certain gears at higher speeds you can feel it more, but you would have to have it in either sport mode or manual mode in a low gear number. I can honestly say its not a problem and I have done 40 or so continuous minutes at motorway speeds.

Hi Guys,
there has been a mention of a Mana with fairing, indeed this site refers to it as the Mana S, and it mentioned that it would appear April this year! as yet i have seen nothing to suggest that this is the case, and there is no mention of it on the Aprillia web site. Has any one seen a picture of this model? or are there any links which confirm that there will be a faired version of the mana, so far i have searched the web and found nothing on this bike, so if any one has a link to information regarding the Mana S i would appreciate it. I am mainly interested in a faired version since i am looking to use it to travell 50 miles a day on it, in all types of weather, i am not sure wether the naked version would be up to the viguors of the British weather especailly in winter!

I went away for the weekend with some friends on our bikes for 4 days and travelled across from Dover to Sandbanks over 4 days. Searched only and found and Aprilia Dealer in Romsey Southampton and the guys there very kindly let me have a test drive. It was only for 10 mins as we caught them as they were closing, but what little time I did have with it, it left me wanting for more. Initial reactions was the driving position was more leaning forward, not a problem but something to get used to, and the power differential and smoothness of the motor. Hopefully I will be able to swap the Nexus for the Mana in a few months time.

Hi Jules, no real news on the screen as yet. Apparently my dealer has lent SkidMarx a Mana for three weeks so that they can play around with it and make a Mana specific screen. They have, I believe, put two or three styles together , but I have yet to see them . They are also working on the fender extenders,(this is where Hein Gericke gets them ). Regards Play Girl.

I was chatting to an Aprilia chap at On Yer Bikes "Do" yesterday, apparently the prototyes were Belt Drive...so I am not off the wall on my conversion to belt idea (see earlier message) They decided that chain was what the market wanted(or the market they wanted) and as it uses mainly existing parts it was also cheaper. For those interested in heated grips..fuse B serves Low/High Beam and Heated grips, but there is no spare feed lying around waiting for you to connect to, you have to splice into the output side of fuse B..I have yet to do it so don't ask me how.

nexus500 To answer your questions: Belt drive is a diy project, which I will report on in time after it is done. I bought the Mana specific screen, to save the hassle of bodging on an after market one, it fits neatly, expensive at £195!! but very good. I found that the lack of an effective rear mudguard resulted in spray coming over my head and back onto my visor, so a rear extension has been "lashed" on for the moment until Aprilia get sensible and offer a pucka one.

Thanks steve for your comments. Real world experience is always the best type for people like myself trying to make an informed decision on a very new bike. I hear from other users here that a front mud guard extender is a must. Interesting thoughts on your belt conversion. Is this something that you buy commercially, or just a DIY project of yours ? The MPG seems pretty good over 1400 miles, on my Nexus I get around 60mpg, which is pretty much what is indicated on the computer, my 15 Litre tank takes me 190 miles with a 1.5 litres left. The Mana has about 16 litres I believe so I'm guessing that the Mana treated with respect as I do my Nexus should give me the same distance which is 3 days worth of commuting. For me the musts would be a screen (did you get the official one), rear top box ( i wonder if the aprilai rack includes the kit for the side boxes) and front mud guard extender which i could get most places. I think playgirl mentioned Hein Gericke did one that fitted, and I have a shop not too far from me.

I've been watching the message board for a time and thought I should add a bit. I have had my Mana for 6 weeks/1400mls and overall I like it a lot. I have a few issues:front & rear mudguards are useless...but look good, I await details of the "mudguard" listed in the dealer info booklet there is a rubber sealing strip under the rear that implies something was designed to seal to it! a front fender extender(bmw k100 fits reasonably) has reduced muck throw up: forks lack damping...improved by changing from 5w to 20w fork oil :I have made a "dummy" rear seat fitted with my Givi rack to enable a topbox to mount on the pillion....far better than hung out the back and available now :The engine was so obviously designed for belt final drive...you can remove the chain without taking the wheel or swing arm out!!...so I am currently making a belt drive system..no chain oiling, I guess it was a step too far for Aprilia having gone way off the beat with the cvt : The screen is good wish I had had it 6 weeks ago instead of having to wait until last friday: Tank bag? if the built in one is not enough add a tail pack! :There is a bit more vibration circa 70 in Sport auto that evens out at higher speed, which is not there in touring..manual fun but why bother (I don't use it on my 650 burgman either)just sail along on the torque :Helmet tank is brilliant: 51mpg average(real fuel not per computer thingy which shows 44.3)over total mileage to date; Performance about the same as my old SV650 maybe a tad better. Overall very good very pleased. I hope this helps would be or even current owners. I am not sorry to have sold my Breva 1100 to get the Mana.

Hi Nexus 500 !! The service intervals are at about 6000 miles, the belt does have to be changed at approx 12000 miles but the bike will tell you when it needs doing and the seat is all in one piece (hinged ) and therefore cannot be adjusted. As for deals on price , the price is set by Aprilia but does vary by a few hundred pounds up and down the country. Dealers make their own rules about discounts, most choosing not to take off anything unless the bike is not selling well, which of course it is. You could wait for the price to go down but could wait a long while. In my experience the price usually goes up !! Hope this helps, regards Play Girl.

thanks playgirl, but I don't have a mana yet hence the question. Trying to find out likely cost of ownership. Went to a dealer in the city, will hopefully get a test drive in a couple of weeks time. Another question which I thought of after I sat on it in the showroom was, is the seat rest adjustable, or is the step between the main seat and pillion seat not adjustable. Also have any of you owners got any good deals on your bikes. The dealer I spoke to was not so willing to negotiate on the bike price so much as accesories. I know the bike is still very new so better deals likely to be had when its been out a while.

Dazz, take your bike back to your dealer it may be set up wrongly for your weight. A small adjustment is all that's needed. Your dealer will be able to sort it out for you . No need to give up yet !! I , personally have not experienced your problem, and find my bike very smooth at any speed. You could also try some different grips. The spongy, rubber type are designed to help cut down vibration felt in the handlebars. Your best bet is your dealer though. Hope this helps. Regards Play Girl.

Hi Nexus500. I'd had the Tmax for over 5 years and 23k miles. It was a great bike, but I really fancied a change to something more like a motorbike, otherwise I'd have probably looked more closely at the Gilera GP800 or the new Tmax. I don't think the stability issue is a big one around town, though I suspect it would be on a motorway. Performance and stopping power are just so much better on the Mana (as you'd hope)&, for me, the riding position feels more comfortable. The only negative is the sidestand - a bit of a pain when faced with a tight space in a parking bay. Still, nothing's perfect!

Thanks EX-Tmax for that. I used to work in Hammersmith, but now based in the West End. There is an Aprilia Dealer round the corner from Liverpool St so might give them a call. What made you chop in the T-Max for the Mana ? Have you found the ride much difference in terms of stability, I know the T-Max is pretty good, but those 17" wheels have to count for somehing. now if they only did 0% interest like on the Shiver !!

Hi Nexus500. I got my Mana in Hammersmith so a long way from you. I gather the rack for the top box is due soon (!); I'm coping without, but I'm sure ex scooter riders/commuters will want it. Getting used to the rear brake position now, but haven't really tried the manual gear changes as I'm in heavy traffic all the time.I just leave it in "Touring" which is very smooth & responsive. General impressions remain very favourable, the engine's great and the riding position's extremely comfortable. I reckon I'm now filtering through traffic jams as easily as I could on the Tmax, though it's no Vespa!

Hi Jim , nice to hear from you !! Yes , I have had to get some 'extenders' for the front mudguard, got mine in Hein Gericke. Living in the country there is quite a lot of muck on the roads and the radiator was needing a good clean off every time I used the bike. The problem was solved with the extender. The bike is going brilliantly, and I've been stopped more than a few times by other bikers wanting to have a look and a chat. They mostly say the same thing.....'Isn't it heavy ?' 'It's better looking than I thought it would be' , and several 'Wows !!'One guy even asked me if I would like to swap it for his bike. I don't intend giving this bike up ,I love it and so far haven't ridden any of my other bikes since having it back from the dealers. Speak to you again Jim, regards Play Girl.

Sorry all for not saing anything, but my mana arrived last thursday... Owning in the past a maxi and a motorcycle I can only say one thing: Mana really combines the pleasure of riding a motorcycle with the practicality of a maxiscooter! it sounds like in the add but this is how things are! a woderfull filling of power and a lot of storage place. I wonder when the rest of the accessories will be out on the market as I really feel after 120 km/h that the wind is blowing me off the Mana..

Very interested in comments here especially from users that have moved from scoots to the mana having never driven a geared bike before. I have only ever owned sccots for the last 8 years, recently had the T-Max for 3 years and did 50K miles and now have a Nexus 500. I'm very tempted to go for the Mana, would love the stability and power by the mana setup. For those that have come from scoots did it take long to adjust. I imagine that the rear brake being the main part to adjust too. I too would also require a topbox, I take it this is not an option that is available yet ??

Hi Playgirl, glad to see that you are esctacit with the bike, on cbf 600 at the moment, will obtain Mana soon. A number of dealers have stated that they are awaiting a number of minor mods from the factory, from your comments one of them is an ECU Plug. Also told by the said dealer that he is is awaiting a Fender Exstender as ' quote ' Front wheel is damaging the cooling radiator through debris hitting the radiator. ?? is this true or as valid as Mugabe receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Safe Miles. Cheers Jim.

Thanks to all here for helping ease the wait for my new Mana which I collected last week. For those moving up from big scoots, I can confirm it's quite a change (where's the rear brake again?), but a very satisfying one (wish they'd sort the rear rack out though;as a commuter I miss the top box). Only problem so far is that it fired up this morning...and then died. Turns out to be rainwater getting round the plugs. Maybe just unlucky, but worth checking if any of you get the same problem. Hopefully some waterproof spray around there will sort it out. Happy riding

Exactly same story here in Seoul^^. It has been repeated again and again that "Finally you can get it in a days or so..."
Yesterday I heard from my dealer that the day "should be" Monday nextweek, the last day of March, 2008. It is the first import stock of Mana to Korea...I'd say that it is a hard & happy waiting....^^

Hi Lave and Chill. I also waited a long time for my Mana. I ordered it last March (07) when I first knew they were going into production. At that time I was told it would be available in July. I was then told September. Well September came and went and I was then told I could have it in November. This then changed to 'You will definitely have it for Christmas'. This then became January, and I finally got it in February !! I understand it's not the Dealers fault. They would love to get the bikes out as soon as possible. It would appear that Aprilia are not very quick off the mark at getting their bikes out to the dealers, and the dealers , like us , are fobbed off with delivery dates. Never mind I've got it now, and I'm very happy with it , so it was worth the wait. Regards Play Girl.

Hi Roger, I think the bike is excellent and the lack of a centre stand is not a problem . If you need a centre stand , buy a bike that has one. Personally I use a paddock stand for any maintenance or repair work. Far safer and easier. Regards Play Girl.

Playgirl, same here ex broken wrist. Its going back to dealers for a look see, its also got a small liquid leak from in behind the starter motor. Its not that bad and as I have had so much fun riding it I know its worth getting sorted. I am not moaning, I just wanted to know if it was just my bike.
As for the centre stand issue, well very few bikes these days have centre stands as its far safer to use proper axle stands to do any sort of maintainance.

Hi Dazzarilla, I've had my bike 6 weeks now and haven't had any sort of vibration at speed or at a slower pace. Hi Paul. The Mana professional photos are very true to life, and show the bike very well. However, I will try and email you some of the same photos that I sent Mr. Austria, and hope that they help. It really is an excellent bike, and comes highly recommended by MCN. I've ridden all types of bikes and the Mana rates right near the top. I don't believe anyone would be disappointed with it. It's a gorgeous looking bike, (and although a little on the high side for me....fixed by having the seat lowered )I am completely in love with it. Look out for those pix. Regards Play Girl.

Hi Paul, what did you want pictures of. I've emailed some to Mr. Austria,he wanted to see my bike's colour in daylight, what was it that you wanted to see ?
With regards to using the foot brake ( back brake ),as you haven't used one before , I suggest you try using it at a standstill before you ride the bike . There shouldn't be any need to 'stamp on it', it's quite responsive, and if you think about how you used your back brake on your scooter, with your hand, then try and use the same amount of pressure with your foot. I actually ride my Mana without hardly ever touching the back brake, the front brake is the important one. However, on hills, or sharp bends and certainly around town, use of the back brake can be very helpful. Speak to you all soon, regards Play Girl.

@Paul
Paul, to be honest, I got on the bike today feeling just a little nervous as it was so windy and wet and I'd never been on it before and it was Friday hometime traffic and I'd never ridden a motorbike before!
First thing I noticed was the sitting position, a lot more forward but I also noticed that i felt more balanced at slow speeds, the Mana lets you feel like you still control it when you are hardly moving, whereas my scooter tended to make you feel like you were coasting at slow speeds. As for the foot brake I didn't stamp it. If anything I probably pushed too little as I was afraid of exactly how hard I should push. It also felt really handy sitting in traffic on a hill to just use your foot to hold the bike in place rather than clamping your hand shut all the time - a bit like driving a car in that respect. I will try to get a feel for it more tomorrow if it stops raining as today was basically a 'get me home out of this rain' run with not much of getting a feel for things. As for photos, I will send you some as soon as I take them in the dry! But don't misinterpret any of my words as doubts about the mana, when I twisted that throttle today, the thing felt like it wanted to fly, and it accelerated really smoothly. I've had 5 scooters and none of them have given me the same feeling as those 5-10 mins today in the wind and rain...

Mr.Patience, have you had any problems going to using the foot as a brake coming from a scooter background.I am rather agressive and will probably stamp my foot down to brake , only using my hands previous.Any chance of seeing the silver in pics.Playgirl, any chance you can send pics as well?

Hi all, just to let you know I got my Mana back today. The new part is fitted and the bike is ready for action, it's just a shame that the weather has taken a turn for the worse !! I will still go out of course as I will get to try the wet weather mode. I hope you will all be sorted soon and we can then all compare notes. Did you all see the write -up on the Mana in motorcycle news ?? What a brilliant report. I love my Mana and intend keeping it until it rots,( as I do all my bikes). I shall probably do a few personalisations on it, but I do that too with all my bikes . Speak to you all soon. Regards Play Girl.

I am now the proud owner of Mana as of 16:00 today. I've only ridden it home (about a mile) and haven't really got trying it out properly as it was an awful day weatherwise here! (heavy rain and high winds). But it was a fun mile. I'm moving from a Yamaha Majesty scooter so the whole thing felt completely different, but also reassuringly familiar. Haven't tried semi-auto mode yet, just rode home in the auto-tour setting, which seems nippy enough so auto-sport must be even nippier. One thing I'll have to get used to is the absence of a fuel guage, seems to have only a warning light, but I may have missed it. Shop also showed me the 'part' needed after the recall - 2 little bits of plastic to fit together with supplied spongey tape - so nothing too serious there, just a little cover. Anyway, hopefully drier or at least less windy tomorrow and I'll get out for a spin...

Hi all again. A bit more news today than yesterday. I am getting my Mana tomorrow. The new kit bit has been fitted this afternoon and they just have to install a new 'map' tomorrow and give it a 20 min test ride (the map sound to be be bit like firmware), and then I should have it, so fingers crossed... I'll post tomorrow evening either way...

Hi all. Sorry, there won't be much news in this post. At the minute, my lovely silver mana is still sitting in the shop... I spoke with the shop yesterday and they said that they were expecting the 'kit' to fix the fault either today or tomorrow. So as far as I'm concerned MrAustria, you can't test ride them yet... But, as I mentioned before, we in Northern Ireland are likely running a couple of days behind others so Play Girl might have some better news. The recall doesn't really bother me reliability-wise, just shows how prompt Aprilia were in their actions really.
Still hoping I get it sorted this week thought as the tax on my current bike runs ot of Friday!

Hi Mr. Patience. I still don't know when I get my bike back. It's been ten days now and I'm getting really annoyed .I paid cash for the bike , I've spent good money on fully comp insurance and taxed it , and I still don't have the use of it. Hi there. I too am patiently waiting for my mana. I had ordered a black one but a 'Lead Gray' one was sent. Decided to keep it as it is actually more silver than gray plus it was in front of me at the shop! But, it's still there. Arrived last Monday and I'm not allowed it due to this recall :( Still, at least I've seen it, and it does look very nice. Play Girl will be missing it more though as I've never actually got to go on it at all, whereas she had and then had it taken away! So if you hear any news about getting your bike back, please post Play Girl as we seem to be running a couple of days behind you here in N. Ireland.

Thanks Paul. Yes I know about the recall. My dealer phoned me last Saturday and told me not to ride my Mana under any circumstances until they had taken it back in and checked it out. I'm just waiting for them to collect it. I haven't experienced any problems, but it's better to be safe than sorry. It's a shame as we were getting on so well together in the lovely sunshine. Never mind, once it's sorted,I can get on with the job of running it in.I understand that only one bike worldwide has been found to be faulty, some dirt or debris in the throttle control. Never mind, all new bikes experience some sort of teething trouble. Thanks again, Play Girl.

Hi all, I have my Mana !!! It is absolutely brilliant. I can't find a thing wrong with this bike. I've had it three days now and I'm still grinning from ear to ear. The brakes are the best I've ever used , it sounds great , it's well flickable, it's comfortable, it's full of surprises and I'm totally in love with it !! I would recommend one to anybody.
Just a quick word to the guy that asked about the colour in daylight and not under showroom lights. The black is a sort of mildly , speckled black, very nice, not jet black , but not grey black. My dealer called it a sort of granite black. Hope that helps. Regards Play Girl.

Hi Paul, no I haven't got my Mana yet. I've been on the demo , which was a little on the high side for me , so I'll need to get my seat lowered. It is a gorgeous bike. It was comfortable, everything was to hand, although the button gear change was a little too near the horn , which led to a few inadvertent 'beeps'.I don't really know what the hold-up in delivery is , nor does my dealer as he has been invoiced for the bikes, but they just haven't arrived.I'm getting more than a little impatient now. However , as soon as it arrives I will give you a rundown on the colour, in daylight, and let you know of any other 'quirks'. Best regards, Play Girl.

Hi Jim, thanks for the info about the seat etc. If my dealer has trouble sorting it I will be in touch ! He seems to be on the case though and already has a few ideas up his sleeve. The back is a whole lot better and I've been for my first unaided walk today ( no sticks ). My horses were very surprised to see me and made a big fuss of me, which was lovely. Luckily they didn't knock me over in the rush to say hello, and stood nicely for the farrier. Thanks again Jim, I'll speak to you soon and let you know how I get on when the bike finally arrives. Kind regards Play Girl.

Hi Playgirl hope you are well on the mend. I noticed the mention about the seat, there is a company up here called Maxton Engineering, run by Ron Williams ? whome are world leaders in suspension, they once made a short rear shock for a zzr 400 that lowered the seat height without altering the handling, i suspect you might be well aware of this,?if not if you require any info, i will do the neccessary. get well soon and safe miles, cheers jim.

Hi Jim, I should have had the Mana for Christmas , but it is , as I write stuck in a container at Southampton docks. It arrived as the dock workers and lorry drivers were packing up for Christmas and the New Year. I'm hoping it will arrive this week, and I should then have it in my possession early next week after it's had all it's checks and possibly the seat lowered. I didn't mind its late arrival too much as I damaged my back three weeks ago and have been on crutches. I would have been seriously upset if it had arrived and all I could do was look at it !!! Well, it's all bought and paid for so I'm really excited about its imminent arrival and will post on here as soon as I've had my first ride. Good luck with your new bike Jim, and a Happy New Year to you . Kind Regards Play Girl.

Sorry Cent, I forgot to say that the faired version is due out next year. I understand that it may be possible to buy the fairing at a later date and have it fitted ( with a bit of modification ), to the unfaired version. I think this is what I shall do and then compare the two. If you want to see videos of the Mana in action , go to Links and Local Biker info on this page and then click on Aprilia ,then follow it through from there. If you are Italian you will be able to understand all the talks and tests on the Mana. Just my personal opinion but the Honda DN-01 is butt ugly, and has received poor write ups in the press . The Mana however ,has wowed everyone, so that's the one for me. Good luck with whatever you choose , and I shall certainly keep you all posted as to my Mana's performance. Regards Play Girl.

Playgirl,
i look forward to hearing your reports about your Mana. I am interested in this bike for commuting aprox 50 mile a day, i note below you say there is a version coming out with fairing, i would be interested to know how you know this since i cant find any reports of this on the sites reporting on the Mana. There is also the Honda DN-01 which i beleive will becoming to Europe in 2008, this has fairing, and i must admit it looks good and its a Honda which could make it more reliable! and then there is the parts issue with Aprillia, i hear nothing but negative comments about the supply of parts by Aprillia! Now before you think i am having a dig at Aprillia Mana, let me say i am Italian! and my heart says buy the Mana! but my head keeps telling to wait for the Honda. So please keep us posted on your experience with the Mana, and do you know when a faired version is coming out, and are the any sites that i could view it on? look forward to hearing your comments

Hi Jim, not too sure where you got the idea that I'd run a 400 Burgman ? I've never owned an auto of any description , the Mana will be the first, I'm looking forward to trying something different !! As for the Burgman , I believe that any Burgman is considered top of the auto's, and well worth considering if you are looking for a large scoot. It looks as though I shall have my Mana shortly, and will keep you posted as to how it behaves. I'm really looking forward to it, and will ride it whatever the weather . Unlike our fair weather friend, the road salt won't bother me , I shall just hose it down after every ride as I do with my current bikes. Cheers, speak to you soon, PlayGirl.

I went to a dealers today and saw the mana in black.I want it now! The girl in the shop didnt really know a lot as all the normal staff are off in milan for the bike show. They dont have the bike in for a test ride yet but got the first one in the country as they have just opened their new aprilia showroom a couple of weeks back. I am thinking of holding out until feb/march next year as I dont want the salt on the roads to ruin the new machine.

Hi Paul, I haven't as yet paid for the Mana because they haven't fixed the price yet , but I'm told that £6,000 is about what it will be.
I've chosen the red as my first choice with black as my second. The reason for the red as my first choice is purely that I always have red bikes because I feel they make me more visible on the road. I didn't like the Mana in blue, so the grey would be my third choice. Hope you get yours soon, whatever colour you choose. Regards PlayGirl.

Hi Jim, yes the Honda DN-01 is I believe going to be available to the Japanese market next year but it's not yet known if it will be available outside of Japan . It looks to be a cruiser type bike , very long and apparently very heavy and low to the ground. From the pictures I've seen of it, I much prefer the look of the Mana.
As for my new Mana , I did think about getting a pink one , but settled instead for the red one , with black as my second choice. Regards PlayGirl.

Hi Jim, I haven't got my Mana yet, but I should have it next month. I've chosen the colour and hope to have it in about 3 weeks or so ! I understand there will be a faired version on offer next year,( that's for the benefit of the guy that wanted to know), and it will look quite sporty, but I feel it may add more weight to an already quite heavy machine. No one seems to be declaring the weight of the Mana , but according to my dealer , who has test ridden it , 'it's quite a lump'! It won't put me off though, as everything I've read about it is positive, and I can't wait to get my hands on one . I'll keep you posted. Regards PlayGirl.

Does anyone know whether there will be a version of the mana with fairing, i am looking at this bike for travelling 52 miles a day to work. The only other automatic which may fit the bill would be the Gilera 800GP which is a scooter, i would prefer the mana since its more of a bike, but i am worried aobut travelling on motorways and in winter with out any fairing, you can imagine salt being a problem with the Mana as well as being hit by rain from all angles at speed, can any one advise ?.

Hi again Jim, just thought you would like to know I have been out on a test ride on the new Shiver today !!! My dealer rang and said that he couldn't tell me before, but he went over to Italy last Thursday and came back on Sunday (yesterday) with the Shivers. I have been on a test run and not only does it look awesome ,but sounds it too. It is a thoroughly gorgeous bike. The only problem I had was that the seat was a little on the high side, I'm not short but could only reach the ground on tiptoes. The seat is quite wide which could be the reason ,but they are aware of the problem and are offering different seats or a bit taken off the shock.
The other news is the Mana , my dealer has test ridden it in Italy and says it's fantastic , and has been told they will now be available in November, and he is going over then and not December as before, to pick some up. So it's all systems go !! Apparently the Mana is not as high seated as the Shiver, which will be good news for a lot of people. Speak to you soon , regards PlayGirl.

Hi Sunny , yes you can ride the Mana on an automatic license,as long as you are not on restriction. That is , if you did not take Direct Access and took the standard test, you will be restricted to riding a bike of no more than 33bhp for two years from the date of your test. Hope that helps you. Hi, it Seems manufacturers have lots of ideas and prototypes for automatic bikes with lager engines and sport styling, I’ve seen the Honda DN-01, Galira Ferro850, Aprilia Mana and the Kymco concept 750. These are all great looking bikes and sound fab, but can we actually get them made and out in to the shops..! Just I have a Peugeot Jetforce and I wanting something bigger with more power but still automatic, I’ve had my fun out of the jetforce and it’s time for something like one of this concepts... So hurry and build them! Also can anyone tell if it would be possible to mix the Honda silverwing 600 with the CBR 600, so you end up with automatic superbike?? Thanks

Hiya Jim , no, I didn't take exception to your comments. I'm not a lover of Jap bikes myself , (even though I worked for Suzuki....hey it was money !!),I'm an Italian bike lover through and through , but I can appreciate some other makes ...the Buell being one of them.
Some more news on the Mana . I went to see my dealer yesterday and he said that although he was told 2008 before we'll see the Mana here , he has been speaking to 'The Aprilia Powers that Be', and he is quietly confident that he will have a couple for sale by the end of the year. There has been such a backlash at the delay, that Aprilia may have to relent and get them out quicker. We'll have to wait and see.
As for Aprilia's poor track record for spares , my dealer reasures me that he can get his hands on any spares and quickly. So if any readers need Aprilia spares, I can supply the relevant details, email address or dealers address (He said it's ok ). Regards PlayGirl.

H1 Playgirl, hope you do not take my previous message serious,it was intended to be humourus??. On a serious note i have been doing the rounds of the Buell Agents, rumour has it that they are in negotiations with varios engine suppliers [K.T.M.] To supply an engine for a new model pos Traily. What gives this rumour credence is that i am not sure that the old air cooled ,pushrod Harley engines will meet future Emmision Regs,so speaking personally i am keeping my powder dry. !!! Hi Jim, it's funny you should mention the Buell. I went to have a look at the Fire Bolt a couple of weeks ago , I was very impressed. It goes like a bat out of hell , sounds fantastic, looks gorgeous , and handles like a dream . Hi Playgirl, sorry about the bad news, speaking to some motercycle traders, they related how difficult it was to trade with the Italians ie you could be dealing with them for years and when it did not suit they would drop you like a stone, no loyalty no nothing. On a positive note they might have by then sorted the appaling spares service out. also Honda might be about to release the new fluid drive auto bike .As for me i might take a look at a Buell, ?? but i do not wish to make you envious. P/S does this delay now mean that you are taking washing in.!!! Cheers Jim.

Latest news from my Aprilia dealer is that the Mana is now not going to be available until 2008. Apparently , they are concentrating on getting the Shiver out first.
To say I'm completely ****** off would be an understatement !!
Why do these companies give dates for new bikes to be available if they are not going to stick to it, or know that they can't possibly got a bike out in that time.
I'm unsure now whether I will wait for the Mana to be come available here or just buy something else . I really don't want to wait another year. I suspect a lot of other people will feel the same. Regards PlayGirl

Hi Jim , I promise I won't put washing powder in my bike, even if it makes it run cleaner ! Actually, we don't really use washing powder anymore, we have those little pillows with liquid in....far less hassle ! Anyway , as you seem to be under the impression that we still live in caves here and ride donkeys instead of using cars, you may be right that we won't get the Mana here before you people 'up t' north' but I have it on good authority that we will, (even if I have to go get it myself !!). If you are lucky enough to get your hands on one before me , don't forget to come on here and spill the beans to everyone, OK ? (And if I get one first ,I'll do the same ). Regards PlayGirl.

Hiya Playgirl,An Aotomatic moterbike might appear strange to some people, it begs the question ?/ who has a manuel telivision. For someone like you brought up on hard domestic graft.anything automatic is a godsend, but please note the automatic powder is for the washing machine only.!!! it will not work on the bike and it certainly will not run cleaner. In conclusion as i live up north it is obvious that we will get them before the provinces, but i will keep you informed. Ride Carefully Cheers Jim.

What's a sink ? Not another new bike for me to try !! As for the washing machine, if you stick some handle bars on it and a decent motor...... I'll ride it ! I hope the Mana rides better than a washing machine though. After reading all the write-ups on it, I doubt it. It appears to be a bike that is going to be all things to all people.
I'm really pleased that it will be a dream come true for so many disabled Bikers too. Why should people with disabilities not be able to enjoy two wheels. Reading the messages on here, it would appear that the Mana is going to help a lot of people .
So come on Aprilia, get your finger out and get that bike over here.......now ! Regards PlayGirl.

Hi Playgirl, i can deduce that you are a clever girl whome can multi task?? there is a first time for everything,as a consequence all this modeling, draping over Suzuki's [ sorry about the bikes ] requires a high leval of fitness as a result you can get closer to the Sink, also the Mana being Automatic is the same as the washing machine??? now you can ride that !!! Cheers Jim.

Hi Jim, never mind ducking , I hope you're on the floor !! I'll have you know my house is immaculate, housework done , kids clean and well mannered, dogs walked , horses exercised, husbands dinner on the table , and I still have time to play with my bikes. Aren't House-Keepers and Nannies wonderful things !!! With regards to the Mana , there's a lot of curiosity among the Bike Club members, who can't seem to grasp the concept . I'll just have to show them when it arrives. Regards PlayGirl.

Hiya Playgirl, do not wish to offend, but you have got the vote,? but not content with that you now want to ride our bikes?? who is doing the Housework. [ me thinks now is the time to duck.].On a practical note i used to go out with the triumph owners club!! Someone has to, and at the end of the run i always maintained contact with the leading group. and this on a 40 bhp Gilera Nexus scooter. In conclusion up to the legal maximum.you will need oxygen, while at the same time your clubmates will be fitting Slickshift to there bikes with embarasment. Cheers Jim.

Hi Jim, what's all this 'mens lib' stuff. Women have been riding bikes for years. I worked for Suzuki , a few years ago now as an 'in-house model', (yes the sort that used to be draped over bikes at the Bike Shows ! )I was given all sorts of bikes to ride at the time, although around London you rarely got out of first gear ! I think a maxi scooter would have been a better option......no gear changing ,with all that stopping and starting.
I've already challenged the members of the Bike Club I belong to, to a race, as they seem to think they can beat the Mana away from the lights . I'm reliably informed that, that is just not going to happen..... I'm looking forward to finding out!! Regards PlayGirl.

Hi Jim, yes I suppose I'm quite lucky that my dealer keeps me up to speed on things. It helps that he's a personal friend and looks after all my bikes for me. However, when the Mana was first being talked about ,I knew more about it than he did , after seeing it at the Milan Bike Show . I fell in love with it then and put my order in straight away, I believe I'm going to be the first person in Dorset to get one . So I imagine I'm going to be a bit of a guinea pig for my dealer, and will have to give him all the information he needs to give to other customers, ie, how it runs , any little quirks or difficulties, etc. I won't mind a bit ! Apparently it will outstart anything at the traffic lights ,even top of the range sports bikes, so I'm going to have real fun with that !! Keep watching this space.

Cheers playgirl. The Piaggio MP3,was according to the dealers due out last sept, but arrived here much later due the enthusiastic response on the home market, where according to M.C.N. they sold 17000 units,so in a nutshell you are on the case and my theory is sunk without trace ??? now where is my Dummey.

Hi Jim. I don't know how big their production line is, but my dealer told me that he was supposed to go to Aprilia , Italy , next month for a ride - back ,with the Mana and the Shiver , but Aprilia cancelled it because they can't get the bikes out in time. Apparently , the Shiver has caused a lot of interest in this country, and the Mana even more so. They have so many orders for both that they are working round the clock to fill the orders......hence the delay until September. My Aprilia dealer is one of the main dealers in the country and is waiting for an actual date from Aprilia to pick up the bikes and bring them back. He is going to email me as soon as he knows. When I know , I'll let you know. Watch this space !!!

Hi, and thanks playgirl as per usual more info of the street than from the trade.?? how big is the Aprilia production cappacity, given that to the best of my information they produce both the 650, and 800cc motercycles for B.M.W , plus the new Shiver, is it any wonder. cheers Jim.

For everyone wondering when the Mana will be available. I have one on order and was originally told it would be in the country (England )in July of this year. I have now been told by my dealer that a few hold-ups in production , means it won't be in the country or be available until September this year. I'm really fed up that I have to wait another 3 months, but you can't hurry these things without making mistakes !! Roll on September.

I lost the use of my right hand and had to sell my fireblade. Got a GS1150 converted with clutch, brake & throttle all on LHS, ok for 600 miles then fell off & broke my ankle. Now ride a BMW Grinnal trike but miss 2 wheels. The Mana auto bike with no clutch lever sounds like the answer to my problems, will get one for sure when it comes out.

I have been riding since I was 8. Lost my left leg to cancer and this bike sounds very interesting to me. I ride on the street using a line tied to the shift and go without using the clutch. When I race I use an electric shifter but it is a constant adjustment problem. I think Aprilia should get me on one to show off at all the race tracks! www.kossmannracing.com

The Mana looks like the answer to all my prayers, particularly since Aprilia are hinting at a faired version next year, but...
1)It is a non-mainstream bike, and while it would suit my needs very well, demand is likely to be small and this could lead to very poor resale value. I know this shouldn't be a major consideration, but I'm not wealthy and I can't afford to kiss goodbye to a few grand just like that.
2) I have no faith in the ability of Piaggio/Aprilia UK to maintain a good spares service, particularly for a bike which probably won't sell that many copies.
3) How well-sorted is the transmission system? I don't want to be an unpaid development rider for Aprilia.
Fact is, if the name on the tank was Honda or Suzuki I'd be kicking down the showroom door right now, but Aprilia?

Sorry Shrug from Glasgow , you cannot learn on this bike because you are limited to a 125cc ( if you're over 17 ) when learning. The only way you could do it would be to do Direct Access and then you could only ride out with an Instructor, and not on your own.You cannot do a CBT on it. Hope this helps.

Roll on 2007 when I hope to see the aprilia_850_mana. I have had to ride big scooters to get my love of two wheels back, during which time I have had gilera 180/ suzuki 400 burgman/ an currently yamaha 500 tmax that I have had for three years, thinking this would do, but I never stoped wanting a proper motor bike. Now it looks like Aprilia have made my dreams come true. Having had a bike liceence for 40yrs, it would be great to ride a bike again.I am disabled so cant manage left foot gear change. This could change things for me,an maybe these a--holes who look down on scooter riders wont be as embarrased when I pass them fully auto up.

Piaggio has spent all the projects' money to support MotoGuzzi, Aprilia, Derbi and so on... It looks like we won't see Ferro for quite some time... Probably the Kymco project will find its way to production prior to the Ferro... http://www.motoblog.it/post/1798/kymco-concept-scooter-750
Ferro according to different sources will come out at 2010 or so... Some although say that there are a few pieces rolling already at Italy... so be careful... travelling at Italy may be hiding surprises....
Personally I own a DNA as my name speaks for it and I would certainly buy the Ferro if it was out on the market...

Honda will put the DN-01 into production, the CEO says, "Look for it!" I expect it to be a 2007 model.
It will use the Deauville engine [650cc, carb'ed, 3-valve] but tweeked to 680cc, fuel-injected, 4-valves and about 65-hp... it should stomp most Harleys. It will have auto, sport-auto, and semi-auto thumb-shift [like the FJR1300-AE].

I love the sports bike flare. I say make the bike. You're already a step behind Yamaha. They release the FJR1300AE for 2006 with the electric shift system. Basically an auto clutch with the rest of the bike being manual...shifting with the left hand or with the left foot. The price is up there! approx $15,299 US. It's a beautiful bike though. Something with your(Gilera) style and engine displacement could still overshadow this bike if you focus on style and a bit lower price. I'm going to wait one year to see if Honda releases the DN-01. This is a link to the yamaha bike for those iterested.

A fully automatic bike is long overdue. Make the seat height adjustable so a 5 foot person and a 6 foot person could both ride. Would ad a lot of female riders to the sport. Would love to be your Northeast distributor in the US. JG,

Great looking bike - but where are you going to stow your helmets? A Gilera bike with a Burgman box and no helmet storage is one gigantic step for mankind - BACKWARDS!!!

I love this idea.I have a DNA 180 and really like this bike but would like more power.I can't cope with trying to change gears because of RSI problems with my hands.I hope they take in consideration the seat height for the smaller person as the Dna 180 is just the right seat height for me as nearly all other bikes are too high as i'm only 5ft.

Like averyone else here - I WANT ONE! Thanks 'Angelo' - saw the images u posted on the other website - had no idea. I have a DNA 180 because riding around London is dangerous enough without having to worry about gears. Automatics are far safer. (Front faring needs more design work thou!)

I agree with all of you, since the Guzzi convert we haven't seen such great leap forward in gearbox technology I would not hesitate to have one in my garage.

This is great. As a disabled rider (I lost my right arm in a road accident) I'd love to see this bike. I'd buy one straight away if the controls could be moved to the left. I'm not to sure about the headlights though.

Great idea the Ferro, although not new at all (remember the '74 Guzzi 1000 Convert?).Complete new design project for the Ferro(with drawings) will appear next month, in the romanian "Univers Moto"moto-magazine. Watch it it, if you can...It's more than a look worth.( i know it well, 'cause i'm working on it).See you soon, mates!

I have a Gilera DNA50 that totally rocks after some after-market 'adjustments' and am definitely looking forward to the 850. It looks like the DNA on steroids. Hope it's available sometime this decade...

I've waiting for 20 years, since the Moto Guzzi Convert fron the seventies. It amazes me it's taken so long for the motorcycle industry to catch up withbvautomotive technology. Don't forget motorcycles use to borrow from the car industry in the 20's, 30's and 40's. Why not take advantage of all that development now!

Does anyone know how close this is to being made? Possible price? Would be a nice option for me , as I have no left hand. Currently tossing about the idea of a 25 year old Hondamatic, or a new Ridley. 25 year old technology does not really appeal to me, and neither does $15,000.00 for the Ridley.

Robert - After market quickshifters should really be installed by their manufacturer, or a least a properly trained agent, who should also be adjusting it as part of a regular maintenance program, as a badly configured system can indeed put undue stress on a gearbox. Also don't forget that so far, they are mainly used on track bikes. The point about the Ferro, though, is that such a system will have been properly developed at the factory by the gearbox manufacturer as Gilera (or rather Piaggio) make their own engines, and so won't suffer from such problems. - Ian

I've heard that these "quickchangers" ruin gearboxes.

Imagine sweeping through the twisties without having to take the balls of your feet of the pegs to change gear; sounds good to me. I'd be especially interested if they used an inbuilt quickshifter system as I've had a bike with a crude version that used to owned by a disabled rider and it worked fairly well. Also, I suspect that the full CVT belt system could be too expensive.
I'd want to have an all day demo ride on one before I could decide that it was going to work for me.
