MaxMoto News: 22/09/03
The Laverda SFC was first revealed at Intermot in
2002, after which Laverda ran various polls for customers to choose
the look of the front fairing from 4 different options. We also
took part. At the Milan Show, Laverda have just released the final
version and the option chosen was.......none of them. In the end
they've gone for twin "bezel" type lights, click on the
pics on the right and see what you think.
There are going to be two versions; an exclusive
limited edition hand built bike made from the best components on
the market (which should be available in the Spring), and a full
production version with slightly lower specifications but with a
price tag between equivalent Aprilia and Ducati models (that will
be available much later in the year).
The Laverda SFC 1000 Limited Edition will have a
high tensile chromium-molybdenum steel tubular lattice frame with
refined TIG welding , an aluminium swinging arm, radial brakes,
Ohlins suspension all round and an Aprilia RSV derived engine with
a close ratio gearbox and a titanium exhaust system.
The engine produces 141bhp @ 10,000rpm and 107Nm
at 7,500rpm. The oil tank has been tucked down at the bottom and
back of the frame (it's the brown box in the pictures), just in
front of the rear wheel to keep the weight low, and the oil cooler
has been laid horizontal just behind the front wheel for similar
reasons. The cavernous airbox pokes though the fuel tank or rather
the fuel tank is ingeniously wrapped around the sides of the airbox,
pushing the fuel filler cap to one side for easier refueling on
the side stand.
The wheels are ultra light, using the latest aluminium
forging technique from Marchesini.
There's also carbon, titanium and magnesium bits
and pieces.
Laverda are allegedly making 549 of them, as they
did the original SFC. Available in one colour only......
Expect this to be the start of a whole range of
exclusive bikes from Laverda.
