Back at the Milan Show this time last year, Moto Guzzi showed us the V7 Clubman prototype, which with hindsight they thought didn't quite hit the spot, and we were inclined to agree with them. However at this year's Cologne Show they produced the Moto Guzzi V7 Racer, and this time we clearly have the makings of an instant classic. Other companies have trodden the retro cool route, but the V7 Racer has them all beat in our opinion.
Harking back to the legendry V7 Sport, the V7 Racer is dripping in historical references yet with modern componentry making it a thoroughly competent current age road machine.
The Guzzi marketing talks alot about this bike appealing to the "gentleman rider" of the kind that used race the V7 Sport back in the seventies and, yes, when you sit astride it, you really feel that they're onto something. They even seem to be expecting the said gentleman rider to take them to the track and are offering an optional non street legal Arrow exhaust to boost power and that evocative v-twin noise.
The first things you notice when you walk up to it are the red frame (as per the original 150 production V7 Sports) and that gorgeous chrome tank and leather fixing strap. Then there's the hand crafted billet aluminium rear sets and top yoke with the numbered
commemorative plaque to remind us of its limited production run. In fact, the whole bike feels lovingly crafted in superb detail, and certainly not mass produced.
The seat is quite correctly a single seated swede affair, but Guzzi also offer a dual seat with rear footpegs as an option.
The modern components include, the fuel injected 744cc v-twin with 49bhp (more with the optional Arrow exhaust), low maintenance shaft drive, a pair of fully adjustable Biturbo shocks,
40 mm Marzocchi front forks, Pirelli Demon Sport tyres and Brembo brakes front and rear.
Just look at the photos. It really does belong in your sitting room not your garage!
We believe only 18 of the this limited production run are coming to the UK, of which we now have one in stock at £7,720 OTR.
