Saffron Walden, Essex circular B road route. 30 mls. 1 camera.
Cuml. Dist. Description
- -   Saffron Walden. Meeting point in the Market Square in the centre of the historic town (park in the centre of the square), or the Eight Bells pub (on the B184 on the northern edge of the town).
0.0 1.4   Take the High Street out of the south west of the town for Audley End House. Straight on (well... rightish) at the three mini roundabouts. You get a good view of the house from the road, which is worth a visit (half day)
1.4 1.0 B1383 At the house, turn left onto the B1383.
2.4 9.7 B1039 Turn right onto B1039 for Barley. Rural and quite bumpy in places with some suprising tight turns.
13.1 0.5   In Barley turn right and right again on the B1368 to Newton.
13.6 7.7 B1368 Fast for a minor B road. Don't forget to slow down to cross the A505, where you have to make a quick right and left.
21.3 4.0   At Newton, turn right at the award winning Queen's Head pub (recommended), through Whittlesford to the A505.
25.3 1.0 A505 Turn left onto the A505 (or right for the Imperial War Museum Duxford - a full days visit). at this junction, but pointing the other way.
26.3 2.0 A1301 At the roundabout (where there's fuel and a McDonalds) turn right on the A1301 for Saffron Walden.
28.3 4.0 B184 At the M11 junction there are 4 roundabouts in quick succession that are popular with the local boy racers. Great fun if you catch them without traffic. Go straight over all of them and join the B184 back to Saffron Walden.
32.3 - Arrive Saffron Walden
